Hatimtai Ki Beti (1955)

Hatimtai Ki Beti ("Hatim Tai's daughter") is a 1955 Hindi fantasy directed by Nanabhai Bhatt, father of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who made many costume and fantasy pictures in the 1950s. It spins off the Arabian legend of Hatim Tai, famous for his generosity and his quests, by following his daughter, played by Chitra, on an adventure of her own, with Mahipal, the hero of many such fantasies, beside her and a young Helen dancing. Expect magic, sword-fights, enchanted lands and songs in the style of the Arabian Nights films that were hugely popular in their day. A colourised version also circulates.
