Theethum Nandrum ("good and bad") is a gritty Tamil crime drama written and directed by Rasu Ranjith, who also plays one of the leads. Two close friends earn their living from petty robberies in Chennai; a heist that goes wrong changes the course of their lives, sends one of them to prison, and puts the women who love them in a precarious position. The film follows the slow fallout, with friendship, loyalty and betrayal tested as the men try to build ordinary lives. Aparna Balamurali, who later won a National Award for Soorarai Pottru, and Lijomol Jose of Jai Bhim play the women. The title comes from a line of the classical Tamil poem Yaadhum Oore, meaning that good and bad do not come from others. It is a low-key, character-driven crime film rather than a mass entertainer.
