Vamsa Vruksham (1980)

Vamsa Vruksham ("family tree") is a 1980 Telugu drama by the celebrated director Bapu, written by his longtime partner Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, about the weight of family lineage, tradition and duty in a traditional household. It is best known today as the first film in which Anil Kapoor played a lead role, several years before he became a star in Hindi cinema, opposite Jyothi. The film has Bapu's characteristic gentle, painterly style and his interest in family values and social custom. In Hindi it has circulated under the title Pyaar Ka Sindoor.
