Driving Licence (2019)

Hareendran is a top Malayalam film star who needs a valid driving licence to finish a shoot. The motor vehicles inspector Kuruvila, a devoted fan, is thrilled to help and only asks for a selfie with his hero in return. But a misunderstanding in front of the media humiliates the inspector, and what follows is a public battle of egos, in which the star has to go through the licence process like anyone else while fans, media and politics fan the flames. Written by Sachy (who later made Ayyappanum Koshiyum), the film was a big hit and won praise for Suraj Venjaramoodu's performance as the wronged fan. It was remade in Hindi as Selfiee (2023) with Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi.
