Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson accept an invitation from Sir Henry Baskerville for a quiet country holiday, but a neighbour's prize racehorse, Silver Blaze, vanishes just before a big race and its trainer is found dead. As Holmes follows the trail, he finds the hand of his old enemy Professor Moriarty behind a plot to fix the race. This British film adapts Arthur Conan Doyle's story "Silver Blaze", with its famous clue of the dog that did nothing in the night-time, and was released in America as Murder at the Baskervilles. It was the last of Arthur Wontner's five appearances as Holmes, a portrayal admired for its calm, pipe-smoking intelligence, with Ian Fleming as Watson and Lyn Harding returning as a menacing Moriarty.
