Paari returns to his village in the Thanjavur region after time abroad and drifts back into village life, flirting with Thamarai, whose father is a powerful local figure played by Lal. Behind the romance runs a long-standing feud between two neighbouring villages over a freshwater pond, a dispute that has already cost lives and that Paari cannot stay out of for long. Director A. Sarkunam, who had made Kalavani in the same rural setting, uses the story to touch on water scarcity and caste-tinged village politics while keeping the easy humour of his earlier film. It was produced by director Bala, and Anandhi, fresh from Kayal, plays the heroine.
