Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018)

Iniyan dreams of joining the CBI, but the job goes to someone who paid a bribe, and a friend in a similar situation is driven to despair. Furious, Iniyan assembles an unlikely team, including a middle-aged woman who becomes their 'officer' Azhagu Meenakshi, and they begin staging fake income-tax and CBI raids on corrupt businessmen and politicians, walking away with their black money. The scam works so well that a real, determined officer, Kurinji Vendhan, starts closing in. Thaanaa Serndha Koottam ("the gang that came together by itself") is a remake of Neeraj Pandey's Hindi film Special 26, reworked by Vignesh Shivan into a lighter, comic caper with a social message. Anirudh's songs, including 'Sodakku', were huge hits. Veteran actor Karthik returned to the screen as the investigator, and the film was a Pongal 2018 release.
