Bow Barracks is a block of old red-brick tenements in central Kolkata, home for generations to Anglo-Indian families. Anjan Dutt's film gathers a handful of its residents, old and young, whose quarrels, romances, music and Christmas celebrations fill the courtyard, while the pressure to sell up grows and the community slowly empties. Made in English, the film is an affectionate portrait of a fading community and its mix of nostalgia, pride and stubbornness. Lillete Dubey leads an ensemble that includes Victor Banerjee and Moon Moon Sen, and the real Bow Barracks serves as the setting.
