Guru Sishyan (1988)

Guru and his sidekick are a pair of light-hearted chancers who live by their wits, until they run into a ruthless man whose crimes touch their own lives. What starts as comic mischief turns into a campaign of revenge, fought with brawn, cunning and plenty of jokes. Guru Sishyan ("teacher and disciple") paired Rajinikanth with Prabhu, son of Sivaji Ganesan, and their easy chemistry and comic timing are the film's chief pleasures. It was directed by S. P. Muthuraman, Rajinikanth's most frequent director, and features songs by Ilaiyaraaja. It also marked the Tamil debut of Gautami, who went on to become a leading heroine. In Hindi it is known as Zulm Ka Baadshah.
