Alex is a convict serving a long sentence, a quiet, principled man who has earned the respect of inmates and warders alike and who holds firmly to his communist ideals. When he is granted parole and returns home, he has to face his family, including characters played by Ineya and Miya George, and the events that led to his imprisonment, which the film gradually reveals. Parole is a low-key drama about justice, family ties and a man's integrity rather than an action film, and it was the debut feature of director Sharrath Sandith. Mammootty plays Alex with restraint.
