Son of Sardaar (2012)

Jassi has lived in London for years and returns to his village in Punjab to sell off the family land. On the train he befriends Sukh and is invited to her home, only to discover that her uncle Billu and his clan have waited decades to avenge a killing by Jassi's family. There is one catch: by the rules of Punjabi hospitality, they cannot harm a guest under their roof. So Jassi resolves never to leave. Ashwni Dhir's comedy is a Hindi remake of S. S. Rajamouli's Telugu hit Maryada Ramanna, itself inspired by Buster Keaton's Our Hospitality. It opened on Diwali 2012 in a much-publicised box-office clash with Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Salman Khan dances in a guest appearance.
