Boat (2024)

It is 1943, and with the Second World War at their doorstep, the people of Madras fear a Japanese air raid. A fisherman takes his grandmother out to sea in his small boat to wait out the danger, and on the way he is forced to take on a handful of others from very different backgrounds. Adrift and running short of everything, the passengers' prejudices of caste, religion, class and politics come to the surface, and the arrival of an unexpected threat makes everyone a suspect. Boat is a Tamil survival drama and satire written and directed by Chimbu Deven, best known for the period comedy Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi. Almost the whole film takes place on the boat, and Yogi Babu, usually a comedian, carries the story in a lead role.
