Description

Vijay, a city man who has no time for religion, comes to stay in a village and is intrigued by a young jogan, a female ascetic who sings bhajans to Krishna in the temple and refuses to look at the world beyond her faith. He finds himself drawn to her, and she, despite her vows, to him. The film follows their silent, restrained attraction and the reasons that drove her from an ordinary life to the temple. Jogan is one of the most admired films of Dilip Kumar and Nargis together, a quiet, contemplative work by Kidar Sharma in which much is conveyed through looks and silences. Its soundtrack by Bulo C. Rani is full of Meera bhajans sung by Geeta Dutt, such as "Ghunghat ke pat khol", and they remain classics of devotional film music.
