Ganesh is a happy-go-lucky young man whose days revolve around following Sandhya, a serious young woman who wants nothing to do with him. His father, played by Raghuvaran, is unusually relaxed about his son's aimlessness and treats him more like a friend than a child, while his friends cheer him on. As Ganesh's devotion becomes the talk of the neighbourhood, events take a turn that forces him to grow up. Balasekaran's debut was one of the films that established Vijay as a young romantic star in the late 1990s, and Raghuvaran's warm, unconventional father was much praised. It was remade in Telugu as Suswagatham with Pawan Kalyan.
