Sameera, a young woman married into wealth, has shot dead a senior police officer who, she says, assaulted her. Vikram Vasudev, a clever and thoroughly corrupt policeman, is brought in to go through her account and help her case, and over one long night of questioning her story keeps shifting, while a seemingly unrelated missing-person case keeps edging into the frame. Evaru ("who?") is a tightly plotted thriller built on twists, unreliable narration and sharp performances, especially from Adivi Sesh and Regina Cassandra. It is based on the Spanish thriller The Invisible Guest (Contratiempo, 2016), reworked for a Telugu setting, and was one of the most praised Telugu thrillers of 2019.
