3 (2012)

Ram falls for Janani in their last year at school, and with his loyal friend Kumaran cheering him on, he wins her over despite her strict family. The first half is a sunny, funny teenage romance; the second, after the couple marry against the odds, follows Ram as he begins to struggle with an illness he hides even from his wife, and the story becomes darker and more intense. 3 was the directing debut of Aishwarya R. Dhanush and the first film scored by Anirudh Ravichander, whose song "Why This Kolaveri Di", sung by Dhanush, became an internet sensation across India before the film was even released. It was also an early screen role for Sivakarthikeyan, and is one of the few Tamil mainstream films to centre on bipolar disorder.
