On the day of his retirement, Mumbai police commissioner Prakash Rathod recalls a Wednesday he will never forget. Between two and six in the afternoon, an unnamed man calls from a rooftop, announces that he has planted bombs around the city and demands the release of four militants. As Rathod's officers race to trace the caller and the clock runs down, the question becomes not only where the bombs are but who this man is and what he really wants. Neeraj Pandey's debut runs barely over 100 minutes and is built almost entirely on the face-off between two actors at the top of their game. It won the National Film Award for best first film of a director and was remade in Tamil as Unnaipol Oruvan and Telugu as Eenadu, and in English as A Common Man.
