The King & the Commissioner is a 2012 Malayalam crossover that unites two of the most famous characters of 1990s Malayalam action cinema: district collector Joseph Alex from The King and police commissioner Bharath Chandran from Commissioner, played once again by Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. Director Shaji Kailas and writer Renji Panicker, who created both, take the pair to Delhi, where a dangerous plot against the country forces the two strong-willed officers to work together. As in the originals, the fire is mostly in the dialogue: rapid, defiant speeches aimed at politicians and villains. For fans of either original, it is a chance to see both men on screen together.
