Udhaya (2004)

Udhaya is a Tamil romantic action drama starring Vijay and Simran, directed by Azhagam Perumal. Vijay plays the title character, a young man whose romance with Simran's character draws him into conflict with powerful people around her, and the film mixes love story, family emotion and action in the manner of the era. Udhaya was made around the turn of the millennium but had a long, troubled journey to the screen and was only released in 2004, by which time Vijay had become a far bigger star. Its soundtrack by A. R. Rahman is the film's best-remembered element, and it was the first film to bring Rahman's music to a Vijay starrer. For fans it is a chance to see the Vijay and Simran pairing, one of the popular duos of late-1990s Tamil cinema.
