Angamaly Diaries (2017)

Vincent Pepe has grown up in Angamaly, a small town near Kochi known for its pork dishes and its tough local gangs, and as a teenager he dreams of having a gang of his own. As he and his friends grow up, start a pork business and fall in and out of love, their rivalries with other gangs escalate from street fights to something far more dangerous. Angamaly Diaries is famous for casting 86 newcomers, many from the town itself, which gives it an unusually authentic feel. Writer Chemban Vinod Jose drew on his home town, and director Lijo Jose Pellissery stages the action with restless energy, ending with an 11-minute single-take sequence during a church festival. It became a cult hit, launched Antony Varghese and Anna Reshma Rajan, and was remade in Telugu as Falaknuma Das.
