Raja is a crafty small-time thief in Hyderabad who agrees to help protect a young heiress from her greedy relatives, mostly for the money. When he is killed in a brawl, his soul is dragged to Yamaloka, the realm of Yama, the god of death. There Raja plays tricks on everyone, gets hold of Yama's divine power and manages to get himself sent back to earth, leaving a humiliated Yama determined to bring him back. Yamadonga ("thief against Yama") was S. S. Rajamouli's mythological fantasy comedy, built on the popularity of old Telugu Yama films. Jr. NTR famously lost a great deal of weight for the role, and his scenes opposite Mohan Babu's thundering Yama, along with a brief appearance by his grandfather N. T. Rama Rao through visual effects, made it a big hit.
