When a young man falls in love with a girl from a family his own clan considers an enemy, the couple have nowhere to go but away. They are taken in by Senthoorapandi, a respected, quick-tempered villager with his own painful history, who decides to stand guard over them even as the girl's relatives come looking for blood. The film was directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar, the father of Vijay, who was then at the very start of his career; Vijayakanth, already a major star, agreed to play the title role to give the young actor's early films a boost. That generosity is often remembered in Tamil film circles, and the pairing makes the film a curiosity for fans of both stars.
