Talaq (1958)

Talaq ("divorce") is a 1958 social drama directed by Mahesh Kaul, starring Rajendra Kumar early in his career opposite Kamini Kadam. It deals with a married couple whose clash of values and pride drives them towards separation, and looks at what divorce means for a family and especially for a woman. It came a few years after the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 made divorce legally possible for Hindus, which gave its subject real topicality at the time. The music is by C. Ramchandra.
