Seetharama Vanavasam retells part of the Ramayana: Rama's banishment from Ayodhya, the years he spends in the forest with Sita and Lakshmana, and the trials that follow. It was directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao, one of the great specialists of Telugu mythological cinema, known for films such as Narthanasala and Pandava Vanavasam. A young Jaya Prada plays Sita early in her career, with Kaikala Satyanarayana, a veteran of mythologicals, in a key role. The film offers the devotional songs, elaborate sets and costumes typical of the genre.
