A domestic flight is hijacked and lands at Tirupati airport. The hijackers demand the release of their jailed leader, and while officials argue in Delhi, a negotiator tries to buy time and NSG commando Ravindra plans a rescue. Inside the cabin, passengers from all walks of life, including a journalist, react to fear in very different ways. Made simultaneously in Tamil as Payanam, Gaganam is a tight, realistic hostage drama that deliberately avoids the usual song-and-dance formula and keeps most of its running time inside the airport and the aircraft. It was praised for its restraint, for Nagarjuna's understated performance and for the gentle humour Radha Mohan finds among the hostages.
