Aan: Men at Work (2004)

Mumbai is in the grip of the gangster Yusuf Pathan, who enjoys protection from corrupt politicians and officers alike. When a principled new commissioner takes charge, he gathers a small group of officers who still believe in the job, among them the hot-headed Hari Om Patnaik, and gives them a free hand. What follows is a war between the police team and the underworld, fought on the streets and in the corridors of power, with personal costs for the officers and their families. Madhur Bhandarkar, better known for realist dramas such as Chandni Bar and Page 3, made this as a large multi-star police action film. Irrfan Khan's menacing performance as Yusuf Pathan is often singled out.
