Gandhi, a well-meaning young man from a village near Madurai, is buried in debt and decides that the answer is to work abroad. In Chennai he falls in with agents who help him get a passport and visa, but to improve his chances he follows bad advice and lists a fictitious wife on his papers. When the lie comes back to haunt him, he has to prove he is married to a woman who does not exist, a problem that drags in Karmegakuzhali, a determined television reporter whose name he happened to use. Aandavan Kattalai ("God's command") is a gentle, observant comedy-drama about bureaucracy, migration and ordinary honesty, from M. Manikandan, director of Kaaka Muttai. Vijay Sethupathi plays it with his trademark understatement, and Ritika Singh, the boxer from Irudhi Suttru, plays the reporter.
