Aansoo Bane Angaarey (1993)

Aansoo Bane Angaarey ('tears turned to embers') is a 1993 Hindi social drama directed by Mehul Kumar, the maker of Tirangaa and Krantiveer, with Jeetendra and Madhuri Dixit. Made in the years of Madhuri's rise to the top with Beta and Khalnayak, it casts her as a young woman whose marriage brings her into a household of greed and cruelty, a story built around dowry and the harassment of brides that turns towards justice and retribution. Prem Chopra plays one of the villains. It belongs to the strand of early-1990s Hindi melodramas that took on social evils with heavy emotion and dramatic confrontations.
