Velu is drifting through life in Chennai, short of money and with nowhere to go, when he discovers an illegal fight circuit where men brawl in closed rooms while gamblers bet heavily on the outcome. His skill with his fists earns him attention and quick cash, but the people who run the circuit are not the kind who let a fighter walk away, and soon he is drawn into a robbery planned by older men with debts of their own. Anandhi plays the woman he cares about, while Saravanan, a former lead actor, has a strong supporting role. Pandigai was the debut of director Feroz and was produced by his wife Vijayalakshmi, herself a former actress. The raw fight scenes, staged in cramped spaces, and the film's grim view of easy money won it good reviews on release.
