Abhi is a cheerful young man whose world revolves around his mother and his friends, until he falls in love and the romance brings him into conflict with people far more powerful than he is. Coming a year after his successful hero debut in Appu, Abhi was Puneeth Rajkumar's second film as an adult lead, nearly two decades after he had won a National Award as a child actor in Bettada Hoovu. It also marked the screen debut of Ramya, who soon became one of the most popular heroines in Kannada cinema. Produced by Parvathamma Rajkumar and directed by Dinesh Babu, the film combines youthful romance, family emotion and action, with songs by Gurukiran, and helped establish Puneeth as a star.
