Adalat (1958)

Adalat is a 1958 Hindi melodrama from the final years of Nargis's career as a leading lady, with Pradeep Kumar as the male lead and Pran in a villainous role. Nargis plays a woman whose life is torn apart by suspicion and cruelty, and whose long years of suffering and sacrifice eventually lead to a reckoning in court, as the title ("court") promises. The film is best remembered for Madan Mohan's music, especially the ghazals sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Yun Hasraton Ke Daag and Unko Yeh Shikayat Hai, which are regarded among the finest songs of the composer's career.
