Vasudev Balwant Phadke (2007)

Vasudev Balwant Phadke was a clerk in British government service in Pune who, moved by famine and by the humiliations of colonial rule, organised a band of rebels in the late 1870s to fight the British with raids and armed resistance. He was eventually captured, tried and sent to prison in Aden, where he died, and he is remembered in Maharashtra as one of the first to choose armed revolt after 1857. This Marathi biopic directed by Gajendra Ahire stars Ajinkya Deo in the title role, with his father, veteran actor Ramesh Deo, and Sonali Kulkarni in the cast.
