Agni Sakshi (1982)

Agni Sakshi ("with fire as witness", the vow of a Hindu wedding) is a 1982 Tamil drama by K. Balachander about a marriage tested by mental illness. Saritha plays a bright, sensitive young woman whose behaviour becomes increasingly disturbed after marriage, rooted in a trauma from her past, and Sivakumar plays the patient husband who tries to understand her. Saritha's performance is one of the most celebrated of her career, and the film was an unusually frank treatment of mental health for its time. M. S. Viswanathan composed the music.
