Agni Varsha (2002)

A kingdom has been without rain for years, and the learned priest Paravasu is leading a long fire ritual to please the god Indra. Away from the ceremony, old rivalries simmer: Paravasu's cousin Yavakri returns from a decade of penance with powers granted by the gods and a grudge against the family, and Paravasu's lonely wife Vishakha is drawn back to Yavakri, her former love. Meanwhile Paravasu's gentle younger brother Arvasu loves Nittilai, a tribal girl, and wants only to be an actor. Agni Varsha is based on Girish Karnad's play The Fire and the Rain, itself drawn from a story in the Mahabharata. Amitabh Bachchan appears as the god Indra, and the film was shot in the rocky landscape of Hampi in Karnataka.
