Gautham and Nithya first cross paths at a wedding where both are getting over a bad break-up, and they bond over their bruised pride. Years later they meet again, and an easy friendship forms, but timing, misunderstandings and the arrival of other people in their lives keep pushing them apart just when they come close. Ala Modalaindi ("That's how it began") is a light, conversational romantic comedy that relies on witty dialogue and the natural chemistry of its leads rather than spectacle. It was the debut of director Nandini Reddy, marked Nithya Menen's first Telugu film, and became a sleeper hit that did much to establish Nani as a leading man. Its fresh, urban tone was widely praised.
