Aladdin and the Magic Lamp (1978)

Aladdin and the Magic Lamp is a 1978 Hindi fantasy directed by Homi Wadia, whose Wadia Movietone and Basant Pictures had made Arabian Nights adventures a staple of Hindi cinema since the 1930s. The familiar story follows Aladdin, played by Sachin, a poor young man in Baghdad who is tricked by a scheming magician into fetching a lamp from an enchanted cave. The lamp holds a genie, and with its help Aladdin rises to win the heart of a princess, played by Nazneen, until the sorcerer, played by Raza Murad, returns to steal everything back. The film offers flying carpets, trick effects, songs and swordplay, a late example of the Wadia family's long tradition of costume fantasy.
