Ambi is a timid consumer-rights lawyer in Chennai who cannot bear people who cut corners, but nobody takes his complaints seriously, not even Nandini, the woman he loves. Then a string of gruesome killings begins: lazy officials, cheats and negligent businessmen are punished according to the ancient Garuda Purana by a masked figure who calls himself Anniyan. At the same time a stylish model called Remo appears and starts winning Nandini's heart. As the police close in, the link between the three is revealed as a case of split personality. Vikram's three-way performance, switching between characters in the same scene, is one of the most celebrated of his career. Shankar's big-budget spectacle features grand song sets and a famous kung-fu fight with dozens of opponents. A huge hit in 2005, it was dubbed into Telugu as Aparichitudu and into Hindi as Aparichit.
