Anwar, a gentle young man from Lucknow, has fled to a small, crumbling temple-shrine in the countryside. The locals and the police, primed by post-9/11 suspicion, quickly decide that a young Muslim man holed up alone must be a terrorist, and the standoff grows into a media spectacle. In flashbacks we learn the real reason he is there: his devotion to Mehru, a neighbour he has loved since childhood. Directed by Manish Jha, who earlier made Matrubhoomi, the film looks at prejudice and paranoia through an intimate love story. It starred Siddharth Koirala, Manisha Koirala's brother, and is remembered above all for the Sufi-tinged song "Maula Mere Maula", which became a lasting hit.
