Railway Raju is a gifted young cricketer from a poor background in 1990s Hyderabad, on the verge of a career in the game. Imtiaz Ali is a tough police officer fighting crime and Naxal violence in the city. A misunderstanding brings the two men into conflict, and it sends Raju's life down a darker road while Imtiaz's own choices catch up with him. Told with flashbacks and a strong sense of period, Appatlo Okadundevadu ("once upon a time there was a man") was praised as a grounded, mature Telugu drama. It gave Sree Vishnu one of his first major roles, and director Sagar K. Chandra later made Bheemla Nayak.
