Appu is an irresponsible young man who spends his days with his friends, getting into fights and frustrating his hardworking father. When he falls for Suchitra, a college student whose father is the city's police commissioner, his reckless pursuit of her makes him a target for the commissioner's fury, and Appu must prove that he is more than a street rowdy. Puri Jagannadh's energetic romance was the first lead role for Puneeth Rajkumar as an adult, after his National Award-winning work as a child actor, and the title became his nickname for life. It was also Rakshita's debut. A major hit, it was remade in Telugu as Idiot with Ravi Teja and in Tamil as Dum, with Gurukiran's songs a big part of its success.
