Arjun and his twin sister Meenakshi are deeply attached to each other. When Meenakshi falls in love and marries a young man from Madurai, Arjun soon learns that the groom's family, led by his crafty father, has wicked plans for her. Rather than confronting them openly, Arjun enters their household and the city's politics, protecting his sister while trying to expose the family from inside, a battle that also brings him into conflict with powerful local figures. Gunasekhar, known for grand visuals, had a full-scale replica of Madurai's Meenakshi Amman temple built as a set in Hyderabad, one of the most expensive sets of Telugu cinema at the time. Mahesh Babu's restrained performance and Mani Sharma's music were highlights, and the film was produced by his elder brother Ramesh Babu.
