Jeevanandham is a wealthy, respected businessman whose fortune is built on a shadowy arms trade. He has three sons: two born to his wife and spoilt by privilege, and Shiva, born outside the marriage, who is quietly the most loyal and capable of them all. When the old man dies, the jealous half-brothers turn on Shiva and leave him for dead, but he survives and returns to settle the score, from India to Europe. Ajith Kumar plays both father and son, with a silver-haired, stylish look. Asal was produced by Sivaji Productions, the banner of the late Sivaji Ganesan's family, and Prabhu appears in a key role; it was Ajith's fourth film with director Saran, after Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam and Attagasam.
