Nandu is a skilled contract killer, quiet and precise, hired to fire a staged shot at a politician as part of a publicity stunt. When the target is killed by someone else and Nandu is framed, he escapes the police and, through a chance encounter, assumes the identity of Pardhu, a young man who left his village long ago. Welcomed back by a large, warm family who believe their son has returned, Nandu finds himself drawn to the household and to the lively Poori, played by Trisha, while a determined police officer keeps searching for the truth. Athadu ("him") was Trivikram Srinivas's second film as director and is remembered for its witty dialogue, Mahesh Babu's understated cool and Mani Sharma's music. It won several Nandi Awards and has become a cult favourite.
