Athisaya Piravi (1990)

A brave, good-hearted man is killed before his time because of a clerical blunder in the court of Yama, the god of death. Refusing to accept the error, he raises a storm in the underworld and is sent back to life, but his own body is gone and he must return in the body of a timid lookalike, whose family and troubles he now inherits. Athisaya Piravi ("miraculous birth") is a Tamil remake of the Chiranjeevi hit Yamudiki Mogudu, giving Rajinikanth a double role that swings between comedy in the heavenly scenes and action on earth. Directed by his frequent collaborator S. P. Muthuraman, with music by Ilaiyaraaja and Kanaka and Sheeba as the heroines.
