Karnan grew up an orphan who learned that power and money are all that matter, and he became a police officer only to get rich. Posted to a station in Chennai, he happily works for Kaalirajan, a gangster with political backing, until a brutal crime involving one of Kaalirajan's men makes him change sides. Turning against his patron means fighting both the gang and the system he once exploited, and leads to a courtroom showdown. Ayogya ("unworthy") is a remake of the Telugu hit Temper, with a significantly changed ending that takes the story in a bolder direction. It was the debut of director Venkat Mohan, a former assistant of A. R. Murugadoss, and Parthiban's sardonic villain was much praised. It was dubbed into Telugu as Rowdy Police.
