Siva is a cheerful young man from a large, loving joint family who helps his friend elope, and in the confusion ends up running off with the wrong bride, Pooja, who is fleeing a forced marriage. Her family is ruled by two rival uncles who both want her wedded for their own gain, and Siva, now in love with her, slips into their household in disguise to turn them against each other and make them accept the match. Uthama Puthiran is a Tamil remake of the Telugu hit Ready (2008), which was also remade in Hindi with Salman Khan. It is a breezy comedy-romance carried by Dhanush's comic timing and Genelia's bubbly energy, with Vivek in a big comic role and songs by Vijay Antony. It was a hit in Tamil Nadu.
