Lokanatham Naidu is a powerful, principled-seeming politician who married a widow and raised her son Mitra as his heir, while his own son Chinna grows up spoilt, violent and jealous. When Chinna commits a terrible crime, the family's loyalties are tested and Mitra is forced to choose between duty, love and the political machine his stepfather has built. Prasthanam ("journey") was praised as one of the most intense Telugu political dramas of its time, with Sai Kumar's commanding performance widely singled out. It was also Sundeep Kishan's debut in a major role. Deva Katta later remade it in Hindi as Prassthanam (2019), with Sanjay Dutt.
