Description

Badi Behen ("elder sister") is a 1949 family drama centred on the bond, and the strains, between two sisters, with Suraiya as the elder and Geeta Bali as the younger, and Rehman as the hero. Suraiya was at the peak of her fame as a singer-actress, and the film's songs, composed by the duo Husnlal-Bhagatram, were a major reason for its success. Woh paas rahen ya door rahen, sung by Suraiya, and the playful Chup chup khade ho zaroor koi baat hai, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Premlata, are still remembered as classics of late-1940s film music. It was also an early showcase for Geeta Bali, who became a major star in the 1950s.
