This crossover from veteran director I. V. Sasi brings together two characters Mammootty had played for him before: Inspector Balram, the hot-headed police officer of Aavanazhi and Inspector Balram, and Tharadas, the larger-than-life figure of Athirathram. Mammootty plays both, and the film sets the two men on a collision course in a story of crime, investigation and political intrigue. It is also notable as Katrina Kaif's only Malayalam film. The novelty of seeing two cult characters share the screen was the main draw for fans of the original 1980s films.
