Banarasi Babu (1997)

Banarasi Babu is one of the many comedies that Govinda made with director David Dhawan in the 1990s, the partnership behind Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1 and Deewana Mastana. Here Govinda plays a small-town man from Banaras, with Ramya Krishnan, the Telugu and Tamil star who later played Sivagami in Baahubali, as his heroine. The film relies on the usual pleasures of the pairing: Govinda's dancing and comic timing, broad situational humour and plenty of songs. It is a lesser-known entry in the Govinda-Dhawan filmography but will please anyone who enjoys their brand of noisy family comedy.
